Richard, myself, Michael Galotti and Theresa Than met Monday morning
and discussed the proposed new lab network layout as sent out last week
by Michael. One sticking point for me was the proposed use of Cisco
6506 switches in the lab as the main backbone switches. This is not
what I want for power and HVAC draw issues, and tried to lobby for at
least 4500s which are significantly less power hungry, and, even though
they are monsterously large and power pigs, they are significantly
smaller and less power hungry than 6500s.

It seems I'm being beaten down at this point, however. Facilities says
there shouldn't be a problem HVAC wise, so I'm already losing on that
front. But the 4500s are about $2.5K cheaper. Which no one seems to
care about.

So while that issue may be all but settled, we still have to come up
with a plan for doing the physical upgrade to the new equipment.
Michael and Rich will come up with that plan. I've said it doesn't
need to even be written down, as long as we all understand what the
basic idea is, and can let people know if there is anything that will
affect using the lab equipment.

Estimated cost for switchess: $

Estimated additional lab equipment needed for end of year:

5 cougars (new employees and additional lab requirements)
Current available cougars for use: 0
