This issue is completely independent of the standalone install for which
CS is developing requirements.

Not sure makes sense anymore given the requirement to make install a one
step process in Delorean. That said I suspect the requimrement from CE
is going to include that custoemrs can go from any release to 3.0 and
not have to load a 223 to get there. Lets discuss.

Yes, they do. They are not independent. The upgrade utility has checks
built in to verify that the destination flash is

using the new layout. The utility will fail if the destination flash is
not using the new layout. This was done to

force all customers to the new layout. We agreed awhile back to only
support 3.0 on the new flash layout.

The implication of back porting the install/upgrade changes to 2.2.3 is
that you must upgrade to the new

layout before attempting to install any release after 2.2.3 has been
installed.

This is just FYI. We agreed to ship the two-step Delorean upgrade as a
backup to the flash and one-step upgrade, though we don't plan to
document or otherwise publicize the existence of the two-step method.
Step one is in Release 2.2.3, which Ed is working on now.

Keep in mind that using the upgrade program in 2.2.3 will reformat the
flash to the Delorean format. In general, that's a good thing, and will
add to stability of the system. There is also no backward compatibility
issue.

However, there is no way to go back to the old flash format. I can't
imagine why anybody would, but just for the record, we should keep that
in mind.

Ed, Ken,

Here are the change numbers that get all of the upgrade and
flash changes that are understood to make up the release that will allow
a system upgrade command to install the Delorean release.

Engineering requires the compact flash changes be part of this release.
This means once this release is installed all releases beyond this
version will need to have the new compact flash layout.

The changes are:

23306 23607 23608 23652 23742 and 23839.

Changes 23607, 23608 and 23742 contain changes to files in openbsd/src.

Larry
