Caeli,
=20
I believe Cougar will have even less precious space for labelling and
for the matter, airflow. Not only will Cougar consume more power but
additional front panel space will be lost due to the extra 2 FC ports.
The thermal simulations don't look that great as it is and we will need
to add heatsinks to quite a few of the large I.C.'s. to help dissapte
the heat.=20
=20
We already silkscreen the ports and I would guess that a small label can
be applied in 1 of the corners somewhere to identify the box name and
the cables can be labeled as well.
=20
I would imagine that since the chassis is 2U and if the bottom 1U
portion does not have another Cougar motherboard and contains a blank
panel or expansion card, then labels can be applied in that space.
=20
All that being said, I think we need to help prevent this kind of brain
dead application of large labels that impede proper airflow to the
Bobcat by including warnings somewhere in our documentation.=20
=20
Regards,
Joe

I think one thing we need to consider for cougar is that customers will
put labels on the boxes - it's how they keep track of everything.
Motorola is not the first to do this.

Will there be space on Cougar to handle this?

Wow, the TXRX and 4 DIMMs on the right side of the box would definitely
have seen elevated temperatures. This is a great example of an
environmental influence at the customer site that could cause local
heat-ups and may go undetected by the temperature sensor since it's in
the back left corner as viewed from the front.

        Abdallah,

Here are the photos of the returns from Motorola with the
airflow being blocked.
