Create a defect and have someone look at the trace.=20

Hi all,

Regarding the case where a customer can't get Office 2007 to save files
directly to his ONStor cifs share. Eric reported that he was able to
get this to work on his system. We have the traces from the failure
from the customer. I think we should either set up the system here so
we can compare, or get someone to help us read through the customer's
traces.

Or, would it be better to create a defect and escalate it?=20

Thanks,
Rich

I think the packet trace we have has the clues we need, we just need to
get somebody who can read them to tell us what they think. =20

Also, did John find anything from the lab setup?

I have been able to find several discussion group postings about
problems with both Vista (now using the SMB2 protocol) and Office 2007
(which seems to have its own bug when connecting to Samba shares.)
There are Samba-specific workarounds in their configurations, not sure
if they could be used in our case.

Cornell case 4732. Customer has some clients running office 2007 on XP;
this
is supported by MS. And some running Vista with office 2007.=20

This led to my question; is Vista changed cifs in such a way that
running
Vista on a network is going to effect cifs and cause supported clients
such
as XP to have issues.=20

But this is not Vista, it's Office 2007. =20

From the Qual Queue page, Vista qualification is targeted to happen by
May 22nd. For now Vista is not supported

Fred, thanks for capturing the trace for case 4732. I suspect opening a
defect would not be appropriate since it is an interoperability issue

Maybe there is a need for this to get into the Qual queue? We have a
case open on this just because it is MS and Vista and we cannot stop the
desktop user from upgrading.

Working getting a lab setup to see whats up with that. Would we feel
comfortable asking the customer for network traces of the failures?

Subject: Microsoft and the Onstor

 Hi
I have a customer with 2 issues.
One is Microsoft Vista and the other is Office 2007

We assume Vista doesn't work with us and told them:
"Microsoft has changed the way it handles cifs with Vista. Onstor EverON
releases currently do not support Vista"

But regarding Office 2007.
Here's snippets from the case:

"Saving files directly from Windows Office 2007 applications fail.
Saving files from Office 2003 is OK
saving files from Office 2007 to local PC drive and then saving that
file to CIFS share on Onstor works.
If you need more info regarding the issue with saving to ONStor from an
Office 2007 application in Windows XP, please let me know.
BTW, is Office 2007 supported by ONStor? "

Any assistance on this matter is greatly appreciated.
