What about Max's change to bobcat-config:

Could removing console=3DttyS0 have something to do with it?

Well, I hope you fix it!  There hasn't been any recent changes checked
into the kernel, has there?  You've bonked your console setup.  Anyway,
it should still boot, you just won't get console messages for a while.
