I was planning to ask him a lot of filesystem related questions after
seeing his resume, but at the beginning of the interview he said he is
not interested in filesystem work, which kind of derailed the interview.
Still I asked him some of the questions, but he did not have enough
interest to explain things in detail and went over everything at very
high level.

He seems to be interested in porting type of work or bringing up things.

I tried to contact a lot of people who worked with him at Auspex.
Couple of people remembered his name and could not recollect anything
about him. One person told me that he is technically good, but somewhat
erratic/eccentric.

I feel he is not a guy we wanted here, but if there are specific matches
in cougar project for him, I am ok with that.

Regards,
Jobi

Tom showed up fairly early for his interview, so I took him at 9:45 and
we spoke for about 45 minutes.

One thing is for sure: people skills aren't really his forte.

I get the impression that he is not interested in designing anything or
creating anything from scratch, that he just likes to be given a rather
narrow, clearly defined task, which he will complete regardless of how
much of a technical challenge it might be and probably without much
hands on management input. I call these people "fixers." Sometimes
you meet a fixer who also likes to take on fresh challenges involving
definite design cycles. I asked Tom about such things and it was clear
that nothing concrete lept into his mind, which I took to mean that such
things hold virtually no interest for him. Quite frankly I wasn't able
to really pin him down on where the greatest areas of interest are for
him.

I think he could do many tasks for Onstor, but he would probably best
fit in the escalations group. Or just working on escalations.

I'd be interested to hear what other people thought.

Cheers,

a
