Hi all.=20

=20

Now that DeLorean is out and we're sharpening our focus on the Zonda
availability release, it's time to also sharpen up our skills with
Coverity Prevent. I know there has been a fair amount of 'getting
started' work already, but to truly gain the rewards we hope to reap
from it we need to delve into more than just the
click-through-the-web-browser-and-pick-bugs-to-fix model. Tuning,
modeling, and an under-the-hood look at the modeling and analysis
engines will help us immensely in getting our false positive rates way
down, as well as learning to tune the checkers' assumptions about our
code. In addition, a number of you wish to do private Coverity runs and
that's great, since you can tune the analysis and checkers to precisely
what code you are analyzing.

=20

To facilitate this, on July 18th, two weeks from Wednesday, a Coverity
trainer will come here to ONStor for two training sessions; the first is
the Administrator session lasting an hour or so I'm told and covering
the wrappers around the make system, generating the software DNA maps
via the analysis engine, and commiting your runs to the database and
therefore the UI. I'm thinking this session will last from about 10 AM
until noon.=20

=20

After lunch on that day, about 1 or 2 PM, the Developer class will start
which lasts a few hours. It goes through much more than is evident by
simply clicking through the UI, and I urge as many as who are interested
to make an effort to attend.=20

=20

I have hard copies of the course materials for both classes in my
cubicle, so if you're interested in having one for reference please come
by and I'll give you one. I have a fair number of the developer guides
and a few of the admin guides, so if you think you'll want to do your
own builds please see me ASAP.=20

=20

...and YES, if you take a manual I'll expect you to come to the training
session with the Coverity trainer :-)

=20

I'll send out a calendar entry as a reminder. Thanks everyone, there
really is more to the product than you may think, and it would behoove
us to make the best use of it's strengths.

=20

Have a good one,

=20

-Ken
