Thank you.

BTW, my upgrade succeeded by rebooting the filer and running the script
again.

Subject: RE: Install script problem for 3.x systems

I think I've figured out why the script is downloading to /tmp. It's not
a 3.x specific issue.

=20

1. Run the script from /tmp.

2. First installation failed for whatever reason, and we have the
tarball in /.

3. Run the installation script the second time. It will remove
/EverON-3.1.0.5BC.tar.gz, and also print the following messages to the
console:

=20

Old distribution file //EverON-3.1.0.5BC.tar.gz already exists.

Attempting to remove it...

=20

These messages are printed from the function findspace():

484 # file already exists. try to remove
it.

485 record "Old distribution file $p/$tball
already exists."

486 echo "Attempting to remove it..."

=20

In download_dist(), we expect findspace() to return the disk partition
to use, not some error messages:

564 tdir=3D`findspace $DISTR_S`

=20

In get_distball(), we try to cd to this directory. So, instead of "cd
/", we try to "cd Old distribution file ...", which of course fails. So
we are still in /tmp.

=20

Raghu, please file a defect for Strategic. It'll only take a few
minutes to fix.

CC'ing Irie-san as he also ran into this a few hours ago.

=20

Thanks,

Ed

=20

Ed,

=20

I was talking to Brian about the install script problems. We had a
recent upgrade failure at Strategic when /tmp got full. Mind you Brian
did not report any problems upgrading Bobcats from 3.0.x to 3.1.x and=20

=20

In case 6464 here is what he reported when upgrading from 3.0.1.x to
3.1.0.4

I cannot upgrade our filer from 3.0.1.2 to 3.1.0.4. During the ftp

The funny thing is /tmp is 19MB partitions. The tarball is 47MB or so.
You can see from the above that it is trying to install the tarball in
/tmp.

=20

Dave rightly points out

----------

If you look at the size of the /tmp partition:

/dev/wd0e 19375 19368 7 100% /tmp

You can see that there is no possible way one could store the 49MB
upgrade TAR/GZIPPED file.

Thoughts?
