It turned out to be a kernel bug, which also caused memory corruption in
addition to the bad core dump generation. I guess there is a reason why
the core dump in linux is disabled by default.

The gdb copied from the bobcat nfs root does not read core files
correctly. Does anybody have any idea if we need another GDB built
specifically for the 32/64 bits?
