1.) The design review was held on 7/10/07 and Andy Sharp attended. We
are taking this approach which I consulted Andy Sharp on.

2.) I asked Andy about the rc.initial script and this was his response:

=20

I have no idea. Probably written by one or more people long ago. I

don't think it's relevant at all anymore -- the daemons can't start if

there is no clusDB and if there is, the rc.initial script will be

skipped.

=20

3.) Andy also had some suggestions about inetd which we need to
incorporate going forward.

This design change should have been proposed in a design review instead
of HCL simply going ahead and

making the change. At a minimum, someone from my group should have been
consulted since we=20

are the reluctant owners of the install and upgrade code.

=20

At this point I would like there to be an as built design review so that
we can understand what has been done,

evaluate if it is the right thing to do, and understand the impact to
Cougar.=20

=20

Charissa, could you please schedule this and include Larry and myself.
Thanks.

=20

Larry,

=20

Thanks for following the initial configuration feature for Zonda as it
will indeed need to be revisited in Cougar. (For one thing, I believe
the configuration files are different.) The capability to use the serial
cable for configuration purposes still exists. HCL removed the
rc.initial script for the reasons given in the email below.

=20

Charissa,

=20

rc.initial script blocks the filer boot up process. Moreover, network
daemons (like sshd, dhcp) and agile daemons start only after user exits

out of the rc.initial. This defeats the purpose of fetching the IP
address from dhcp server, since user would have already configured the
network parameters before starting the dhcp client. Hence we decided to
remove the rc.initial.

=20

Still the user can configure the filer using serial console. When the
user runs nfxsh via console after boot up, nfxsh prompts the user to
enter the initial configuration parameter and allows it to commit the
changes as he used to do using rc.initial. The same procedure applies
for SSH connections.

=20

Below is the screen shot of the sample configuration via console
