Do you know what they are using for authentication? NIS version? Or
other?

Subject: Re: OnStor and FC 7 & 8 still incompatible

=20

From the old case I see nfs share issues with Fedora 7

The observed symptom is that on this box (our only F7 box accessing the
NAS right now)=20

- nfs shares from the NAS (mounted manually or through autofs) mount
apparently normally=20
- world readable/writeable files and directories work normally=20
- all files list permissions correctly=20
- user or group controlled files get permissions denied on attempted
access by users who should be authorized.=20

These same ONStor nfs exports work correctly (with expected group and
user permissions) on all other hosts.=20

Non ONStor nfs exports can be accessed normally (with expected group and
user permissions) from the F7 client (and other hosts).=20

Shares are mounted with nfs v3 and seem normal. Fiddling with mount
options has not made a huge difference so far.=20

nsswitch.conf appears to be correct, the ONStor logs are not showing any
obviously relevant errors, the client logs don't seem to be complaining,
and we're generally puzzled.=20

/proc/mounts shows=20

/etc/autofs/map_unix_vs_rhat_64 /unix_vs autofs
rw,fd=3D10,pgrp=3D24380,timeout=3D300,minproto=3D5,maxproto=3D5,indirect =
0 0=20
unix_vs:/unix/export/linux_64/local /unix_vs/local nfs
rw,vers=3D3,rsize=3D4096,wsize=3D4096,hard,proto=3Dtcp,timeo=3D600,retran=
s=3D2,sec=3Dn
ull,addr=3Dunix_vs 0 0=20
unix_vs:/unix/home /unix_vs/home nfs
rw,vers=3D3,rsize=3D4096,wsize=3D4096,hard,proto=3Dtcp,timeo=3D600,retran=
s=3D2,sec=3Dn
ull,addr=3Dunix_vs 0 0=20

all of which is consistent with other hosts and local norms

The problem turns out to be specific to nfs-utils-1:1.1.0-4.fc7.x86_64
interacting with ONStor nfs shares.=20

The work-around is to roll back to NFSUtils
nfs-utils-1.0.12-4.fc7.x86_64.

Back in case 6210 we eventually found that the problem
was a reproducible compatibility problem between the newer NFS patches
in FC7 and OnStor. Wease e were swamped at the time and opted to revert
our FC7 systems to the original FC7 release from our older disk set. We
figured that either OnStor or Fedora would sort this out by the time we
needed to press forward on upgrading systems.=20
	=09
However, we have a need to get a system to FC8 and FC8
will not work with OnStor. This is a clean install to a generic Dell
system without doing anything very fancy to it and is reproducible (by
doing a generic FC install) on another system as well.=20
	=09
Do recent EverOn versions address authentication
problems with NFS under FC 7/8? We are reluctant to upgrade randomly
until we\'ve ascertained that such an upgrade will specifically address
this problem and that it will not break our backups (see case 5292).=20
	=09
We have one system unusable at the moment though we have
the user on a loaner and are rebuilding it to an earlier rev to get him
going for now, but we cannot keep building systems under FC6/first rev
FC7 for long.=20

our FC7 systems to the original FC7 release from our older disk set. We =
figured
that either OnStor or Fedora would sort this out by the time we needed =
to press
forward on upgrading systems.

However, we have a need to get a system to FC8 and FC8 will not work =
with
OnStor. This is a clean install to a generic Dell system without doing =
anything
very fancy to it and is reproducible (by doing a generic FC install) on =
another
system as well.

Do recent EverOn versions address authentication problems with NFS under =
FC
7/8? We are reluctant to upgrade randomly until we\'ve ascertained that =
such an
upgrade will specifically address this problem and that it will not =
break our
backups (see case 5292).

We have one system unusable at the moment though we have the user on a =
loaner
and are rebuilding it to an earlier rev to get him going for now, but we =
cannot
keep building systems under FC6/first rev FC7 for =
long.<font
