Subject: Clients in Resource Scheduler.

Folks,

Many of you have noticed that the lab client machines are in Resource
Scheduler (http://ressched/resourcescheduler). Going forward, we will
be relying on Resource Scheduler for reserving the client machines. The
Resource Scheduler product is designed so that client machines can be
added to existing filer reservations. Here's a quick tutorial:

When you reserve a filer, you should think of it as the primary
resource, and the client machines (or other filers, for clusters) can be
added to that primary reservation as additional resources. This is
accomplished in the Resources tab, located on the same page as the
Recurring tab. The client machines are currently organized in Resource
Scheduler by manufacturer and then by rack and model. You will need to
know this information in order to add client machines to your primary
filer reservation.=20

To locate the client machine you are interested in, first use the Find
box on the Resource Scheduler home page (upper left corner). This will
tell you the make, model and rack it is on. For example, search for
"c20r34". It is an IBM xSeries machine on Rack 21.

Next, go to your filer reservation, and click on it. The Resources tab
is to the right of the Recurring tab. In the drop down box, locate and
highlight the make, rack and model for the client you want, then click
the Show button.

Put a check in the box for the client machine(s) you are adding, and
click the Submit button at the bottom of the page. You are done, and
the client machine(s) have been added to your primary filer reservation.

If you encounter any problems with this, please open a help desk ticket
to let us know.

Also, please be aware that in the near future we will be changing the IP
addresses for the majority of the client machines to indicate their true
rack location in the lab. These changes will also be reflected in
Resource Scheduler.

Thanks,
John
