That's correct, ftp strips the executable bit off the program when it's
downloaded.  That's why the instructions should (and did at one time)
read like so:

# sh ./install_program.sh

That is how you are supposed to run it.

This is quite simple: do not use CTRL-Z to end this script, use CTRL-C

CTRL-Z is some kind of nfxsh-only thing.  It will cause the install
script to malfunction, and if you then try to run the script again, bad
things will happen.  Probably the cause of some of these other problems.

I assume you went in by hand and deleted it, yes?  This should not
happen and is caused by there being a copy of the install script
still running. That's what happens when CTRL-Z is used instead of
CTRL-C.

If successfully installed, then there is nothing to worry about.
