Hi Larry,

Here's the deal.  I talked to Ian, and according to him, there are no
changes to socat that are important enough to warrant going to all the
trouble of using a modified package, and the standard package will work
for emrs just fine.

So please, if you would, remove the part of the makefile that builds
and includes socat from nfx-tree for Linux, obviously leave it in there
for BSD.  For Linux, simply add socat to the list of packages in your
scripts and makefiles.
