That is accounted for in the scoping effort we did which is summarized
in the document.

Right, but back when openbsd was first selected, BC didn't support Linux
either, so that wasn't a factor then. Now it does support Linux so it
is a big factor. I had a discussion with Narayan about this and he said
that the thing that was most important to him was that we use something
that had some kind of outside support. I was feeling him.

The deceivingly short answer is "not yet." First I am bringing up
Linux on the TXRX BCM1250 Sibyte processor on a Bobcat to get a start
on what I need to do for Cougar. After Cougar is up and going, then we
will be going back and bringing Linux up on the GPP of Bobcat which is a
PMC-Sierra RM9K, which is a much different processor. While we will be
porting Bobcat to Linux, the idea is not to hold up the Cougar project
for that effort, so it will largely be done after Cougar is finished or
when we are blocked waiting for hardware.

I do have a toolchain, but currently we are not trying to build
userspace programs with it, just kernels. However it is a
semi-complete cross tool chain with a C library, but no other
libraries. You can get the rmps or debs for it at

/n/software/cougar/mipsel-crosstoolchain-i386

When I have something running on the TXRX processor of a bobcat, people
will be free to play with it, but of course it won't be a functioning
filer. However it will be a functioning environment to test userspace
programs that don't use any of our "special" facilities like eee and
so forth. We will definitely be letting people know when that is
available.

Cheers,

a
