Uh, I don't remember exactly.  I think it returns -1 during scan, and
then upsets the whole bus afterwards.  Let me try it again w/o putting
them in reset to refresh my memory.

I just got my workstation all the way up after it got "power-failed" on
Saturday.  I had to come in Sunday to get it working well enough for me
to use it remotely, but it took me a couple of hours this morning to
get X windows working again.  Did we get struck by lightning or
something?  Geez.  Good think I make backups.
