Since our last meeting I realize that I didn't grok all the issues at
play here, nor did I understand the deeper import of some of the things
you were saying. So I'm trying to think of a solution that would make
everyone happy but I haven't fully arrived there yet. Just thought I
would let you know I was thinking about it.

One thing is that I think maybe it's high time this company walked the
walk a little more when it comes to open platform. We are preaching it
wrt S-X, but we aren't quite living it as much as we might. I'm
specifically talking about letting people have whatever computer/OS
they want and our IT infrastructure should support it and not be afraid.
We really aren't that far away now, we just need to jetison
Exchange/Calendar. I realize that makes people nervous, so I was
thinking maybe it would help for me to have an informal discussion with
Bob/Frank about how we can open our IT infrastructure and free
ourselves of unreliable, slow, expensive M$ software. Do you think
that's a good idea? I know Frank is pro Mac, so he would probably not
be too resistant, especially if we can stop writing that yearly
exchange check to Microsoft for $X00,000.

I realize that the open platform support isn't the only fart in this
wind, but this company becoming more relaxed on the subject would clear
the air a little bit.

Cheers,

a
