Thanks, Jay.  It was something on the Exchange server where they have
it set up to only allow people who have authenticated to the smtp
server to send to certain email lists, which, excuse my language, I
think is boneheaded.  I assumed that it allows anyone sending from
inside the network without authenticating -- because it does -- to most
addresses, and that one would only have to authenticate if one was
sending from somewhere in the cloud.  Oh well, it's all going OK
now that I finally convinced them to share this little secret with me.
