N,

I know exactly what you mean, and the answer is that it will
automatically sync the time upon boot up, so we should be covered
there.  Also, if a network connection is reconfigured, ntp will be
restarted (if I understand correctly), so any ntp configuration changes
will be picked up at that time as well.  Basically, all the hooks and
stuff are already there, so it should all just "work" ~:^)  The ntpdate
command only needs to be done on BSD.
