Well, it sounded like a customer emergency, hence the unothodox method.

The change has gone into r330rel, dev, and r400rel branches.  At first
I thought the r400rel branch was a mistake, but it needs to be
discussed more.  It's possible we will want to roll the release for
this one considering the ramifications.  Either that or crank the
handle on the version counter.
