OK, I worked out how to do this.

We just need to add the following one-time procedure to the upgrade
process:

1.  Log into nfxsh
2.  type the command _system dnsconfigure hosts_
3.  You are now editing the auxilary hosts entries with vi.
4.  Delete the line with localhost on it if there is one.
5.  Write out the changes and exit vi.
    [If there isn't a line with localhost on it, just explicityly write
     out the file with the :wq vi command]
5.  The /etc/hosts file should be re-written at that time in the correct
    fashion.

That should take care of things.  QA, can you test this yourselves, and
pending that, we have a 'go'.
