Brief status update:

Last week:
==========

Bill completed implementing the IP PTP over management bus driver and
is able to ping and ssh between 1480 and 1125 Linux environments.

I did more work on the functional spec and have released version 1.0
for review.

I checked in prom and software changes to implement a new way of
loading the images such that booting is faster by more than 50%, and
more flexible as well. A couple of sundry prom fixes and cleanups in
addition to the new loading code, mostly for the benefit of developers.

I started preliminary design work on the vsvr implementation.

----------------

I have created a list of milestones for the project extending to the
end of February. I am purposely keeping them between Bill and myself
for now because they are really meant just to focus and guidance for
our development efforts, and not for fodder for executive dithering. I
felt now was the right time to buckle down our focus and kick the
development into a higher gear as we have "made it to basecamp" as of
last week, and some of the fuzzier parts have become much clearer.

The goal is to have 80% functionality by the end of February, and then
all of March to get the remaining 20% as well as tests implemented,
running, and passing. We'll see how close we can come.

Next week:
==========

I am planning on disseminating a preliminary draft of a design
document on Monday.

Bill and I are working on getting the ACPU thread [group] compiling and
into the kernel, with zero functionality. Basically, the patient up on
the table, but no surgery yet. I'm expecting we have this by the end
of this week.

I have asked Larry to create a branch for us, because we are going to
be doing a lot of chopping and hammering in nfx-tree and none of it
will be backwards compatible.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Cheers,

a
