Subject: RFC: upgrade/install backstep to lambo -- too soon?
Message-ID: <20070411165504.34ae4210@ripper.onstor.net>

I'm finding more bugs and things in the upgrade/install/"system copy
whatever" code paths in Delorean, so it would behoove QA/CS to not make
the "special" version of Lambo with that code until it's had much more
time to mature.

Eng made some hasty statements to QA/CS that this code was magically
delicious and a panacea for all problems, but it's never actually been
tested and hardened by lots of users doing lots of unexpected things
with it. If we infest lambo with the bugs that inevitably will be in
lots of new code, like this is, it will be our hanging chad that gets
sheared.

OK, that last paragraph may have been somewhat pointless, but perhaps
there was some kind of therapeutic value or something.

Tralala, oh yeah, my point is supposed to be that I think we should not
be rushing to make this code be in Lambo for a while, until it's lived
in Delorean for a while longer. Like another month.

This is what working on install scripts does to a brain.

Cheers,

a
