I don't think this is quite true.  ZFS has its own "automount" type of
behavior, using LRU and other, little disclosed (read the source, luke)
algorithms for determining when to unmount/mount.  If a path hasn't been
used yet, I don't think it will necessarily mount the corresponding
filesystem right off. Assuming these filesystems have been given the
right properties when created, and like that.
