Hi Arnaldo,

I'd humbly like to offer myself as a resource in aiding you in this
effort. I know quite a bit about putting together a debian based setup,
our own Cougar software just to mention one, and a lot of experience
with possible methods for doing so. So please feel free to run past me
anything you want to know, delegate anything that needs doing, from
getting coffee to writing scripts, so long as it helps you out in this
effort. I'm very excited about this, because I'm strange that way, and
even feel a bit ashamed at never getting the project off the ground
myself.

There are a number of programs and packages that exist for Linux to help
out in doing exactly this sort of thing, so if you want to research
those yourself or ask me about them, that's definitely the best way
to go. There's one called FAI (fully automated install); there's
apt-cache, a caching package proxy server for apt; apparently Debian's
own installer now has many capabilities along these lines. There are
literally dozens of other programs and methods worth looking at.

Cheers,

a

After I loaded our cross-build tools on a Ubuntu system I could not upgrade it properly to the next release of Ubuntu and I had to do a complete re-install from CD to get to the next release. Which means I had to pain-stakingly reinstall all of my cross-build packages. Some I had to rebuild due to glibc issues.

Andy assures me when we move to the TUXRX version of the Cougar we will no longer have this restriction. However, that will more likely be a 2010 reality than 2009.

My understanding is that the framework for doing builds will have an influence on what this new image should look like and to that end wanted to start a dialogue with you and possibly others to determine what would best meet our needs.
