I'm quite confident the ubuntu thing will work and demonstrate the
way.  Just to let you know, my workstation, the mighty-mighty ripper, I
started by USB boot/install, and if I recall, next to nothing had to be
done in the BIOS to get it to work.  Fairly modern BIOSes seem to be
geared for it as default behavior.
