Hi Deb,

I currently am a fan of the "lower TCO" story of Onstor with respect to
the lower power consumption, but I don't believe there is quite enough
material for our sales persons to really hammer the point home for
potential sales ops. So, I've decided to put together some talking
points, presentation, white paper, what have you, that our
marketing and sales folks can toss at folks to spark their interest.
But just a NAS head that doesn't consume much power isn't
really all that interesting to customers. What's interesting is the
whole kit. A low power storage system. That's when I started to think
about the Atrato that we have in our lab and that one of our qual guys
spent several worthwhile hours qualifying ~:^)

So, in the area of more info, what would be helpful to me is some
bottom line (pre-cooling) numbers on a V1K. The white paper I
downloaded might have the numbers I want, I'd have to go back and
double check. So, idle and max watts is what I'm looking for.

I also would like to know if you have dual controller configurations,
which is what is the center of our sales for HA reasons. The V1K we
have is single controller, and I can't tell from your brochure if you
have dual controller capability. The power figures I want would be
with the dual controller.

What I plan to produce is a dead-simple, "in your face", short list of
talking points along these lines:

[Numbers below are completely made up. Actual numbers are what I need
to compute with all the relevant data]

For customers with large storage needs, like web 2.0 companies or
similar:

+ Would you like to migrate your PBs of storage from costly 25amp rack
datacenters to value-priced 15amp rack datacenters? And cut the number
of racks in half? -Call Onstor
+ Would you like to save $50,000 a quarter in storage infrastructure
costs? - Call Onstor
+ Would your boss appreciate a $3,000/quarter lower AC bill? -Call
Onstor

Well, you get the idea.

The sales and marketing folks around here are focused on moving the
"old-world" 3.5" storage with our NAS heads, and I'd like to put some
energy into getting them to think about sales possibilities based on the
"new world" advantages of low power. I don't know about you, but we
could definitely use some more sales these days ~:^)

Thanks,

a

That sounds interesting. Let me know if you need any help spec'ing
that config. We've got 3 different models of the 1U single 3xxx
series. Different performance/price is the variable.
