No, this should be amd64 arch.  That is the arch name for all x86_64
systems.  ia64 is itanium and is a different ball of wax.

Rich, you sent out a question, but I'm not sure I understood it.  If

There are more than a dozen supported architectures in Debian.  There 3
Intel-ish ones:

i386 - 32 bit legacy arches: pentium-*, athlon (not athlon64), 486, etc.
amd64 - all x86_64 arches including opteron, athlon64, core 2 *, any
        64-bit x86 machine we would have...
ia64 - itanium flavors only

Then there's non-intel, like mips, arm, hppa (parisc), alpha, 68000,
sh, sun4u, ...

i386 will install on amd64 machines as they all will work in legacy
emulation mode.  That's what happened to us.
