L3 for short.

Anyway, just wanted to type up some notes. Helps me organize the
thoughts in my walnut sized brain.

Lab LAN upgrade
---------------

Equipment and related activity
==============================

Some number of copper gigabit ethernet NICs for client machines to
replace the fibre NICs. I'll sell the fibre NICs on eBay and retire.

-Rich, if you could get a rough idea of how many and what type we need,
gracias. Ie., single interface 64/66 PCI-X, or dual interface
single channel PCIe, you get the idea.

Some number of switchess and patchpanels and ...

-Michael and Theresa are handling this, including figuring out the port
counts and designing the sweetest lab network setup we've ever dreamed
of. I knew this LSI acquisition thing was going to pay off one day!

A bag full of copper SFPs to replace the fibre SFPs for the data part
of the LAN network.

-Michael and Theresa also generously handling this item including
 getting the count and whatnot.

Analyze the storage upgrade needs going forward. Replacement of aging,
obsoleted storage with some LSI kit made in the last 4 years.

-Rich, this one's also in your Good Hands (tm). Not part of the LAN
picture, but I thought I would mention it anyway.

M & T will be throwing together a plan for migrating 'cuz it's just a
tad more complicated than just pulling on the fibre cables to make that
happen. Or so they tell me.

Thanks everyone,

a
