Soooooo,

Either you put new proms on the problem system (10.2.7.235 9010) or my
kernel change fixed things, as I'm able to boot my kernel over and over
with success.

Ah, I booted the old kernel, and it still has the problem.  Yay!  I
fixed it!  I don't even know how I did it!

Here is the diff of the yenta driver with my change:

So you can see that I just added a "reset" if you will, to the mix at
intialization time.  I have NOT done extensive testing.  But it does
boot over and over so far.
