Hi Usha,

Well, things were seriously hectic yesterday so I'm only now finding
time to get to this, but I wanted just to send you a note in
preparation for your visit here next week.

As you know we are staffing various groups at this time, both my group
and the Escalations group. My group, if I may call it that, is the
Platform group and we work on system level projects within the
overall product development team. Mostly this pans out to be kernel
level work with the occassional user level daemons and filesystem
creation and so forth.

I remember during our conversation when you said you really wanted to
work at the kernel level, and it reminded me of myself when I was at a
similar point in my career, so I thought I would just send you a few
pointers for when you visit us.

If you're serious about wanting to doing kernel work and you want to get
into my group, I would suggest boning up on the NFS protocol as much as
possible, as well as general kernel knowledge in the NFS area so we can
get the best idea of your capabilities there. I believe I mentioned in
our first meeting that we very much need someone to work in that area
and also in the area of CIFS. In fact we just call it the 'NFS and
CIFS' area.

While it's true that you can start out in Escalations and eventually
move on to other groups, that can sometimes take extra time and effort
due to the fact that they always have a lot of demand. On the other
hand you can get experience in other areas of the product besides the
kernel and networking, because the escalations group fixes bugs in all
parts of the product, including the CLI and javascript code.

Just a couple of things to think over, whether you're very serious
about wanting to get into kernel level work, and whether you think
you're ready to do kernel work your first day on the job, if this
should get to that stage.

We're looking forward to your visit next week.

Cheers,

a
